CINCINNATI – The Scripps Howard Fund, a public charity established by The E.W. Scripps Company, is providing more than a half million dollars in grants to nonprofit Cincinnati area organizations. The grants, totaling $508,000, will benefit 25 organizations that support literacy or basic needs.
The Fund is based in Cincinnati, where The E.W. Scripps Company is headquartered. The Fund invests hundreds of thousands of dollars annually in Greater Cincinnati nonprofits that focus on childhood literacy and children living in poverty. This supports its mission to create a better-informed world.
The literacy organizations benefitting from this year’s grants include:
• Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati
• Crayons to Computers
• Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired
• Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
• Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio
• The Literacy Lab
• Letters 2 Literacy
• Oak Hills Alumni & Educational Foundation
• Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission Inc.
• Queen City Book Bank
• UpSpring
• Santa Maria Community Services
• Brighton Center
• Public Library Foundation of Cincinnati & Hamilton County
Grant funding is provided to assist in the following areas: Implementing new, or expanding existing, childhood literacy programs; purchasing books, materials or new technology for childhood literacy programs; creation or expansion of summer reading programs to address summer reading loss; supporting childhood literacy programs that help students who read below grade level or have trouble reading; and building home libraries for children of low socioeconomic status.
