FRANKFORT, KY (Jan. 31, 2025)—Sen. Chris McDaniel, R-Ryland Heights, has been reappointed by Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, to serve on the Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee of the Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South).
As a committee member, McDaniel will continue working with policymakers across the 15-member southern states to address tax policies, government operations, budgeting, and financial oversight. This appointment grants him access to research, legislative briefings, and expert resources provided by CSG South, with support from committee leadership and policy experts.
“It is a privilege to be a member of this committee, where I can engage with fellow legislators to discuss sound fiscal policy and promote sound, disciplined fiscal policy like those we’ve championed in Kentucky,” said McDaniel. “As the Senate Budget chair, I understand the value of each penny our constituents entrust to us and that accountability must be at the heart of budgeting other people’s money. I look forward to bringing Kentucky’s example of disciplined governance to these discussions at the regional level.”
The Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee is a platform for legislative leaders to examine tax policies and standards, government efficiency, procurement processes, and state budgeting strategies. Through this committee, CSG South facilitates collaboration and the exchange of best practices to ensure effective financial management and governance.
Founded in 1947, CSG South is the largest of four regional offices under the Council of State Governments, dedicated to fostering intergovernmental cooperation among Southern states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. The organization’s annual Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) allows policymakers to discuss emerging government solutions and exchange ideas on pressing fiscal and administrative challenges.
As a committee member, McDaniel’s responsibilities include
• representing Kentucky and engaging with fellow legislators to enhance regional fiscal policy and government operations,
• participating in committee sessions and business meetings at the Southern Legislative Conference,
• contributing to policy discussions and legislative roundtables,
• voting on key fiscal policies and committee leadership roles, and
• engaging in CSG South’s legislative briefings, webinars, and financial policy development programs.
McDaniel will serve another two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2026.
The 2025 Southern Legislative Conference will be in Birmingham, Alabama, on July 19-23, providing policymakers with a platform to discuss state budgeting strategies, fiscal responsibility, and government efficiency for the Southern region.
