Covington, Ky. – Kentucky Refugee Ministries-Covington is pleased to announce we were awarded a $25,000 Safety Net grant from Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) to support housing assistance for the refugee clients we serve.

KRM-Covington strives to be a safety net for refugees, ensuring they are able to provide for themselves and their families, maintain a stable family environment, and foster positive mental health—all while helping them restore self-agency, adjust and acclimate to their new surroundings, and find belonging in a new community.

With housing costs as the largest expense and potential financial burden for any person or family, this grant will enhance our organization’s mission to support our clients with the certainty that they have a safe and secure home. These vital funds will specifically be used to help refugee newcomers secure stable and affordable housing, sustain housing expenses in a market of inflating rental costs, and support housing needs in the refugee community we serve in their first year of resettlement.

“Financial insecurity greatly exacerbates the mental and spiritual toll of transitioning to a new country. This grant will be used to offer relief to families who, despite their effort and toil, experience an emergency that could potentially leave them at risk of losing water, power or even becoming unhoused. This will aid in our effort to ensure newcomer families have the cushion needed to rebound from an emergency and establish the independence required to thrive in the United States,” said Rhys Boatwright, Housing Coordinator, KRM-Covington.
