Turns out that you cannot, in fact, be naked in Kenton County’s Doe Run Lake Park, much to the chagrin of the patriots and freedom fighters at Bluegrass State Naturists.
“Doe Run Lake is a County-owned park, and there is zero tolerance for nudity of any kind,” according to a statement from the county. “Anyone observed or reported engaging in nudity at the park will be subject to law enforcement response and arrest.”
The internet became abuzz earlier this week when the Bluegrass State Naturists posted on their Facebook page that “our Doe Run Lake Nude Recreation Area is now listed internationally through multiple nudist organizations. They decided they are gonna keep it listed permanently. We are super excited about this and glad to be able to help spread naturism and nudism and body acceptance and nude recreation across Kentucky and The World.”
Naturism is a cultural movement aimed at spreading the acceptance of nudity in social, nonsexual settings. The Bluegrass State Naturist Facebook page is small, having only 88 followers as of the publication of this article. The specific organizations purportedly listing Doe Run as a designated spot were not given in the post. LINK nky was not able to corroborate this designation among naturist organizations; The American Association for Nude Recreation, for instance, lists the nearest nude resort in Bennington, Indiana.
A cursory search on social media sites like Yelp and Reddit, however, does uncover people talking about various purported naturist sites around the region, not just at Doe Run Lake. “The county does not have the Constitutional Right to bully their citizens into submission,” reads a subsequent post from the Bluegrass State Naturists. “We will continue to use our designated Doe Run Lake Nude Recreation Area the trail at the top of the Dam as a permanent nudist recreation area, because it is already listed Internationally permanently as one. You are encouraged to do so as well.”
