COVINGTON, KY — “Ceasefire Now Covington,” in conjunction with Northern Kentuckians for the Commonwealth (NKFTC), Black Power Initiative (BPI), and Cincinnati Palestine Solidarity Coalition (CPSC), is hosting and organizing a “Nakba Day” candlelight vigil this Wednesday, May 15 from 6 to 8 pm at Goebel Park in Covington, Kentucky.
The Candlelight Vigil aims to acknowledge and educate the tri-state area about the horrors of the 1948 Nakba – also known as the Palestinian “Catastrophe” – that took place 76 years ago in which Palestinians were ethnically cleansed and displaced from their homes as the State of Israel declared independence – and the ongoing occupation and dispossession that has taken place leading up to the current genocide taking place in Gaza. Wednesday’s activities will also highlight and emphasize “Sumud” – which translates to Palestinian steadfastness in the face of such atrocities.
This event will feature speakers, poetry, an open mic, grounding activities, and community healing and bonding in light of the painful events that have unfolded in Gaza since October 7. Light refreshments will be provided. Everyone from all ages and backgrounds is welcome to attend on Wednesday.
