Jesse Brewer has shared his intent to run as a Democrat against Rep. Thomas Massie for Kentucky’s 4th District House of Representatives seat. That is, assuming he wins the May primary against Melissa Strange.
No, not Boone County Commissioner Jesse Brewer.
This Jesse Brewer lives in Villa Hills and said he decided to run for office after a terminal cancer diagnosis last year.
Brewer has been in remission for six months and, he told LINK nky, “I’m taking my new lease on life and putting it to good use working for people.”
He will be officially launching his campaign on May 23 on the steps of the Gallatin County Courthouse, he said in a press release.
“Warsaw is my hometown, and I want the people of small towns across the district to know they too have a voice,” Brewer said. “I live in Villa Hills currently and need the big counties of NKY to know they have representation since the incumbent is not from here.”
Brewer filed a statement of spending intent with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance on May 1, indicating his intention to run in 2026. The filing is required for any candidate who wishes to raise and/or spend more than $5,000 during an election. It is the required first step for campaign fundraising and spending in Kentucky.
Brewer will also have to file with the county between Nov. 5, 2025 and Jan. 9, 2026 in order to appear on the ballot in May.
As for why he decided to run?
“It’s obviously a tumultuous time politically right now, and I just want to take a stance,” Brewer said. “The good news is, I currently live in Villa Hills, so I’m centrally located and I can meet with the bulk of the population in a 10-minute drive.”
One thing Brewer said he will focus on in his campaign is how difficult it can be for the average person to pay their bills.
“I’m bordering on bankruptcy because of medical bills,” he said. “I’m not shy about that because one event can turn anyone’s life upside down.”

“I just want to bring the district together,” he said.
