In 1979, my commanding officer handed me a book entitled Assault on the Liberty by James M. Ennes Jr., an officer on the USS Liberty when it was attacked. Many years have passed as my career has taken me to Captain in the U.S. Navy and Master with Military Sealift Command. Over the years I have come to know a good number of Liberty survivors.
The Israeli government and its supporters have repeatedly undermined our foreign policy by blocking any real accountability for the deliberate attack that killed 34 American sailors and wounded 171 others. We cannot allow the same forces to silence independent voices in Congress. We are praying that Congressman Massie survives these relentless political attacks, because leaders of his integrity are essential to restoring honesty and independence in our government’s foreign policy.
