Many of our long time Covington residents cannot afford to live here any longing ! Salaries have not increased enough for low income people to live in Covington. Many Air B&B’s for example have taken spaces which could be apartments . Long time residents are being strongly encouraged to sell their homes to “big time organizations” which will rehab the homes and rent them at high prices. All of the property at the IRS site will again be “high end housing” which will be unaffordable for most long time Covington people !! They are being pushed out of this “Welcoming city” which many have called home most of their lives. Is this justice ??? Why can’t these developers who are building all of this “upper class” property be REQUIRED to build a certain amount of “affordable housing” while they are building “high end” housing ??? They are getting big tax breaks etc. while local long time residents are eliminated !! Poor and low income folks are just not wanted in Covington as the River end builds up for the elite !
What can our city leaders do to be inclusive in developing this northern end of Covington ?
Painfully sincere & wishing for justice,
Sister Janet Bucher CDP (Our Savior Church )
