Kentucky Refugee Ministries, in collaboration with Life Learning Center, will host over 32 Afghan refugees families who’ve resettled into Northern Kentucky for a welcome event.

The luncheon will take place on May 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 20 West 18th Street in Covington.

Over 70,000 people were evacuated to the United States after the fall of Kabul; attendees of the luncheon are some of the individuals displaced as a result.

Catering will be provided by Aladdin’s Eatery, a local franchised restaurant specializing in Lebanese cuisine. There will be activities for children and the event is open to the public.

This luncheon is one of many collaborative efforts between Life Learning Center and KRM in order to support the growing refugee community in the Northern Kentucky area.

To better understand local diversity inequities, Life Learning Center is a founding member of Northern Kentucky Non-Profit Leaders for Social Justice, along with partner organizations from the Northern Kentucky region.

Furthermore, LLC assumed a leadership role in 2022, organizing group efforts to collect welcome baskets and necessary household items for Afghan refugee families resettling in Northern Kentucky.  The project is not only intended for economic relief but to establish a welcoming community where this population can feel empowered to start anew.
