Residents will soon see orange traffic cones lining Uhl Road and Koch Drive after bids for a stormwater project were approved Monday night at the Cold Spring City Council meeting.
Eaton Ashpalt will complete the project, which is scheduled for spring 2024. This is the first time Eaton has worked with the city.
The project’s original estimate three years ago was $90,000, but it is now expected to cost just under $240,000. The city will use American Rescue Plan Act funds to pay for most of the project, and City Administrative Officer Stephen Taylor. He recommended any balance left after ARPA funds, which he said could be $14,000, come from the general fund surplus.
The original estimate was for mill and overlay only. Due to age and issues with lighting, curbs and gutters and improper drainage, more work is required to correctly fix Koch Drive, which contributed to the rise in cost.
The road will continue to be open during the project, and construction should be finished by June 2024.
“There’s a lot of areas that need full depth repair,” Taylor said.
