In August and September, the Boone County Planning Commission conducted five meetings to gauge public thought regarding the comprehensive plan update. Now, the county is seeking input.
A prime focus of the comprehensive plan is to flesh out goals and objectives that will be adopted by Boone County and the cities of Florence, Union and Walton concerning the direction of future development, officials said.
“We must update our comprehensive plan every five years, in doing that it’s in two parts, goals and objectives are kind of what you call part one, part two being the elements – which is where all of the recommendations are,” Boone County Planning Commission Community Development Services Director Jenna LeCount said during Union’s recent Caucus/Commission meeting.
The process remains in its initial stages, LeCount said.
“We’re going to collect input from all three cities and the county, we have the public input and we’ll also be working with targeted stakeholders to make sure we’re adequately representing all of the needs throughout the county,” LeCount said. “The biggest ask we have right now is to help us make sure we are filling in any gaps that may still remain.”
Logistics and transportation are some of the topics of interest of Union to resident Chris Page with regard to the comprehensive plan.
“When you examine Northern Kentucky’s growth, you have to consider how various resources are acquired, stored and transported,” Page said. “What is that going to look like in our region in the next 20-plus years? There’s a good chance if we answer that question now, we won’t struggle with it later.”
Mini presentations from LeCount and Boone County Planning Commission Preservation Planner Bridget Striker are also slated to be delivered in Florence and Walton and a comment period on existing goals and objectives will be established from Dec. 6 to Jan. 5, 2024.
“What’s going to happen is we are meeting with everybody in caucus and then we will open up a virtual comments section on our cyber webpage,” LeCount said. “You can get in there and provide us, digitally, your comments on any portion of the document. If, for some reason, that is not your preferred way to do this, we can work through whatever way is most effective for you all.”
