Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center broke ground on a new facility in Boone County Friday.

Representatives from the healthcare provider joined City of Union officials, donors and a host of well-wishers for the ceremony Friday morning at 2015 Children’s Way in the Union Promenade mixed-use development under construction on U.S. 42.

The one-story building, which will be named the Cincinnati Children’s Brandon and Kelly Janszen Union KY Building, will be visible from the highway’s intersection with Sweet Harmony Lane.

“We’ve always had a presence in Northern Kentucky,” Steve Davis, the health system’s president and chief executive officer, said. “Too often we’ve had to have children come to us. This is a real opportunity for us to deliver world-class care close to where our patients live. And we’re really excited about it.”

Once the facility is completed in the spring of 2025, it will deliver a combination of pediatric primary care and specialty care, Davis said.

Cincinnati Children’s expects to see the first patients at the location in spring 2025.

Specialty clinics planned for the local facility include:

·       Adolescent Medicine

·       Dermatology

·       Diabetes

·       Gynecology

·       Human genetics

·       Neonatology complex care

·       Pediatric surgery consultation

·       Physical medicine and rehabilitation

·       Rheumatology

“All of these are part of our continuous investment in bringing world-class care closer to home to patients and families and making sure every child has access to the services they need, when they need them as close to home as we can provide them,” Davis said.

Achieving that goal requires collaboration, solid partnerships and gratitude to Union’s leadership, Davis said.

“This is a momentous day for the City of Union,” Union Mayor Larry Solomon said. “The establishment of Cincinnati Children’s embodies the city’s unwavering commitment to our growing community. Cincinnati Children’s provides the highest quality healthcare service and building this establishment in Union ensures our young people health, happiness and prosperity.”

Construction is slated to begin in two weeks, and the project should take about 15 months, officials said. The initial cost, which includes the purchase of land for the development, is estimated at $22.5 million.

“Investing in our community has always been a priority of mine and Brandon’s,” Kelly Janszen said. “Specifically, supporting causes that directly impact children’s health and education. Little did we know almost 17 years ago, when our beautiful niece, Payton, was born, just how important our support and partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital would become.”

Payton was born with a condition requiring her to receive ongoing medical treatment from the hospital, Kelly Janszen said.

“When we learned Cincinnati Children’s Hospital would be expanding to Union, Kentucky, we were thrilled our community, our family and our friends would have access to the best care in the world in several sub specialties even closer to home,” Kelly Janszen said. “By partnering with Children’s on our Union, Kentucky campus, we hope to leave a legacy in our community and inspire others to do the same.
