A new program at Ballyshannon Middle School is allowing eighth-grade students to present Defense of Learning presentations on communication and collaboration before they move on to high school.

The presentations were tied to the Boone County Portrait of a Graduate — a school district’s vision for skills needed to survive in life. The skills include character traits, social and emotional competencies that allow them to succeed in college, career and life.

As part of the presentations, students chose transference artifacts for either communication or collaboration.

One class of either sixth or seventh graders, the presenter’s parents, an administrator and one or more of their teachers were there to watch and learn.

Ballyshannon partnered with Shelby East Middle School this year for this new pilot program.
