Two Northern Kentucky University students received a $2,500 scholarship award and are the only students in Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati area to be selected.
Anna Dailey and Asia Whitmore received the scholarship from Alpha Sigma Lambda, an adult national honor society organization.
“I was beyond thrilled to hear I had won this scholarship,” Whitmore, an international studies major and political science minor, said. “I went back to school to improve the lives of my two kiddos, so having as little college debt as possible when I graduate is a must. Every little bit helps and motivates me to move forward.”
College affordability tends to be one of the biggest obstacles for adult learners. According to a news release, many of NKU’s returning adult learners are no longer eligible for financial aid, while others need more assistance than what is available to them.
Sara Conwell, assistant director of Adult Learner Programs and Services (ALPS) at NKU, said ALPS is “extremely delighted” that both of their submissions were selected for the scholarship.
