Fort Thomas residents suffered a disappointing blow this week when vandals destroyed a community piano placed under the clock tower at Lumley and North Fort Thomas avenues.
The piano, donated by the Tallant Music Studio, was available for all to play and enjoy, and was to be part of a street piano program this summer, said Caileen Tallant-Adams, owner of the music studio. The city partnered with the studio to provide the program. A local muralist, Ben Harrison, was set to turn the piano into a work of public art as well.
Sometime between 5 and 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, someone destroyed the piano, leaving it beyond repair. The Fort Thomas police are investigating the incident.
But Tallant-Adams said the piano program will go on this summer. The City of Fort Thomas is working to provide a new piano, and she will move forward with her plans to teach community lessons twice a month on the piano throughout the summer.

“For the short time the piano was out, I got several pictures and video; people really enjoyed it,” she said. “I hope people will continue to enjoy the new piano and celebrate community and the arts. It’s a gift from us, the city and Ben to the community to use. I just want them to enjoy it.”
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Fort Thomas Police at (859) 441-6562, the city, or Tallant-Adams.
