The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will no longer require travelers to remove their shoes during mandatory security screenings, according to a CBS News report.
As of now, the Transportation Security Agency has not officially confirmed the change, although several news sites confirmed the news through internal TSA reports.
The change is expected to impact travelers going through the standard TSA screening lines. Currently, only passengers with TSA PreCheck are exempt from removing their shoes when going through security screening.
CBS reported that CVG, along with Baltimore/Washington, Fort Lauderdale, Portland, Philadelphia, and North Carolina’s Piedmont Triangle, are the first airports to phase out the practice.
Shoe removal was implemented in 2006, five years after Richard Reid, infamously dubbed the “Shoe Bomber,” attempted to detonate explosive devices on a flight from Paris to Miami.
