The Cold Spring City Council discussed the DAV building development on Sept. 11.

Preparation of the former Disabled American Veterans, known as DAV, site slated for future development is going as planned, said representatives from Cold Spring City Council.

While still standing, the building on the site is expected to be torn down by the turn of the year, said Mayor David Penque.

HVAC and water systems in the 3725 Alexandria Pike building have been shut down, with only electricity left running to power six to eight lights, said administrative officer Steve Taylor at a special council meeting on Sept. 11. He expects the electricity bill to be minimal, but is prepared to cut electricity as well if the charge surpasses expectations.

“We have no purpose for the building,” Taylor said.

These steps follow a years-long battle over who has the rights to the DAV site.

After a July Campbell County Board of Education meeting, the board voted to sign and accept a settlement agreement and mutual release of claims between the city of Cold Spring and the board.
