The City of Covington is hosting an open house for the Pike Street Development, which aims to convert the surface parking lot at 257 Pike St. into the new home of the Covington Farmers Market.

The open house will be held on July 13, from 4 to 6 p.m., at John G. Carlisle Elementary School, located at 910 Holman St. During the event, residents, business owners and community stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide input that may help shape the property’s future.

The public meeting is the next step in a collaborative development effort among the City of Covington, Covington Independent Public Schools, the Center for Great Neighborhoods, Covington Farmers Market, the Covington Motor Vehicle Parking Authority and other community partners.

In early June, the City of Covington entered into an agreement with the Covington Independent School District to purchase the .77-acre property at 257 Pike Street. The property currently serves as a surface parking lot for John G. Carlisle Elementary.

The Covington Farmers Market currently operates on Washington Street each Saturday morning from May 2 to Oct. 31.
