Campbell County is asking residents not to park on county-maintained roads during snow emergencies.
When cars are parked on the street during a snow emergency, plows cannot safely clear the road. Cars can end up buried in heavy, frozen snow after plows pass.
This applies only when a snow emergency is officially declared (one has been declared in Boone and Kenton counties on Tuesday) and only on county-maintained roads. The purpose of this is to help first responders stay safe and protect residents’ vehicles during snow emergencies.
This ordinance does not cover streets maintained by cities. Residents should review their city’s snow ordinance.
“This is not about writing tickets,” said Campbell County Public Information Officer Justin Otto in a press release. “It’s about giving our road crews the space they need to work and helping keep your vehicle safe during declared snow emergencies.”
What community members need to know:
- This only applies during a declared snow emergency. The fastest way to see if a snow emergency has been declared for Campbell County is by checking Campbell County’s Facebook page.
- Cars left on the street during a snow emergency can get buried in heavy, frozen snow and may be damaged when plows come through. Moving your car helps first responders do their job and keeps your vehicle safe.
- While a fine is possible for cars left on county-maintained roads during declared snow emergencies, that’s not the goal.
- Clear roads help first responders and road crews reach residents quickly and safely.
