Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of the people who died in the plane crash in Louisville on Tuesday night.
As of Wednesday afternoon, nine people have been confirmed dead in the fiery crash, and the governor expects the death toll to rise, according to LINK nky’s content sharing partner LEX 18. Rescue crews are still active on the site, and Beshear declared a state of emergency Wednesday morning.
This is the third half-staff order the governor’s office has ordered this week. The first two were issued in honor of the deaths of former Gov. Martha Lane Collins and former Vice President Dick Cheney, aged 88 and 84, respectively.
Beshear did not issue an immediate statement related to the flag lowering order on Wednesday, however, he has been issuing ongoing updates to the public as recovery efforts continue in Louisville. You can stay up to date with the recovery efforts by following LINK nky’s content sharing partner LEX 18.
Although it is not required by law, “individuals, businesses and organizations throughout the commonwealth are encouraged to join in this tribute,” wrote the governor’s office.
