One person is dead after a crash, and the AA Highway is closed north of Alexandria, Campbell County dispatchers told LINK’s media partner WCPO Monday morning.

The AA Highway was shut down in both directions for hours while authorities investigated the crash, which happened near KY-709 and Thelma Lee Drive early Monday morning. Alexandria police told WCPO the crash happened around 5 a.m.; the AA Highway reopened just before 9 a.m.

Alexandria police said the driver of a semi truck apparently ran a red light while heading south and crashed into a vehicle being driven by 62-year-old Shirley Yeary of Falmouth.

Yeary was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Alexandria police. The driver of the semi truck was not hurt and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Alexandria officers are working with the Campbell County Special Incident Response Team to investigate the crash; Alexandria police said they are still working to determine any other factors that may have caused the crash.

Police did not say whether the driver of the semi truck would face charges.

Anyone who may have information on the crash can contact Officer Jacob Denney at 859.635.4126.
