The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is the latest to roll out CLEAR biometric eGates at the Transportation Security Administration’s security checkpoints.
Launched Oct. 24, the new eGates use real-time facial recognition technology to verify travelers’ identities by matching their facial image with their ID and boarding pass.
According to CLEAR, the TSA retains full control over airport security operations, including gate access, screenings and enforcement of federal security policies. CLEAR only transmits limited information, such as a live photo, boarding pass and enrollment ID photo, for identity verification. The company does not have access to federal watchlists, cannot override TSA decisions, and cannot manually open security gates.
Once a traveler’s identity is confirmed, they proceed directly to physical screening, bypassing the TSA podium but completing all standard security procedures.
“This partnership with TSA is a powerful example of how public and private sectors can work together to enhance security and improve the aviation ecosystem. CLEAR is investing in this technology at no cost to taxpayers to modernize our checkpoints and ensure America’s airports are ready to meet global expectations,” CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman Becker said in a news release. CLEAR’s secure identity platform will help unlock a better, safer, and more frictionless experience for all travelers.”
Before its installation at CVG, CLEAR added eGate systems at LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
