Fort Wright has received nine letters of interest for their vacant city council seat. They interviewed candidates in executive session on Oct. 7 and 9.
The following people contacted Fort Wright to indicate their interest in filling Abeln’s former council role:
- Adam Kunsman
- Brian Deye
- Katie Baker
- Christine Nutter
- Chad McDaniel
- Jason Worms
- Donna Ross
- Joseph Moffitt
- Joseph Abner
All of the aspiring council members listed above have lived in Fort Wright and intend to continue living in Fort Wright through 2026.
Dave Abeln left his council position last month due to increasing responsibilities at his full-time job. Abeln was well-respected, and many of his fellow council members feel his perspective will be sorely missed.
LINK asked Abeln about his hopes for the person who will fill his seat.
“A new council member’s presence should focus on safety and financial security,” Abeln said. “They need to know how to collaborate. In my experience, the best solutions come from multiple people with different ways of thinking.”
LINK also asked Abeln how a new council member should work to steer the city.
“They should continue the path that we’re already on,” Abeln said. “Stay transparent, keep property value up, and continue to make Fort Wright safe and livable.”
The city plans to announce the new member by Oct. 13, at the earliest.
