The Kenton County Schools Board of Education approved a bid from Radius Construction Monday night for the final stages of renovations at Piner Elementary.

The work at Piner is an augmentation to renovations that began about three to four years ago, which missed some key parts of the school, namely the gym, parts of the restroom facilities, some areas of the parking lot, as well as interior and exterior work here and there.

Radius was one of six companies to bid on the project, said district Chief Operations Officer Matt Rigg. Radius was the lowest bidder. Radius’ bid estimates the cost of the construction at about $2.96 million, according to bidding documents from the district.

The board approved initial schematic plans for the work in May and more complete construction plans for the work in June. Rigg stated Monday the work will begin in December and is scheduled to end the following summer. Rigg added that the work should not disrupt classroom activity.
