Several local organizations announced the launch of a new civic education program, designed to “educate, connect and empower civic leaders in the region,” this week.
Called the LaunchNKY Center for Civic Leadership, the program was created by Northern Kentucky University, the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the OneNKY Alliance. It is a 12-month series of sessions on civic engagement and skill development, primarily targeting early- to mid-career professionals.
Classes will be taught by NKU faculty and other regional leaders, and graduates will be included in a new leadership database. Classes begin in January.
“LaunchNKY is a unique opportunity to invest in this generation’s civic leaders who will shape the future of Northern Kentucky,” said NKU President Cady Short-Thompson in a press release from NKU. “By combining the expertise of our faculty and the vision of our community partners, the Center creates a streamlined pathway for engaged leaders to learn and connect with the ideal leadership opportunities to strengthen our region for years to come.”
Bob Heil, the former CEO of KLH Engineers who has also served on various civic organizations and nonprofit boards, will serve as the center’s executive director.
