The 2024 Kenton County Comprehensive Plan has been honored by the Kentucky chapter of the American Planning Association with an Outstanding Comprehensive Plan Award.
“This award highlights the dedication and hard work of our planning staff, community partners and the residents who participated throughout the process,” said Kareem Simpson, Covington representative and chair of the Kenton County Planning Commission’s Implementation Committee, in a press release. “We are excited to continue building on this foundation and putting the plan into action.”
The county comprehensive plan is required to be updated every five years. It serves as a set of recommendations for zoning and development throughout the county.
Although many cities have their own zoning regulations, the comprehensive plan serves as a template for cities to follow, ensuring development cohesion among the county’s various jurisdictions.
Public service agencies and organizations also use comprehensive plans when setting policies, and the plan itself touches nearly every aspect of public life, from transit to housing to economics to the environment.
The Kenton County Planning Commission approved the most recent plan last September, following months of events for collecting public input.
Kenton County Planning and Development Services Director of Planning Andy Videkovich thanked the county’s professional staff this week at the meeting of the Kenton County Planning Commission for their work in crafting the plan.
“It was a lot of additional meetings, a lot of weekends and evenings for them to make sure that we were putting together the best plan that we could for Kenton County,” Videkovich said.
