One man was killed and another was injured in an accident involving a road work crew in Boone County Thursday evening, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Police were called to the 2400 block of Lawrenceburg Ferry Road around 7 p.m. Thursday, when a 42-year-old Robert Kinsella was pinned under a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Major Philip Ridgell, spokesman and public information officer for the sheriff, told LINK nky the accident involved a road crew using a specialized vehicle to pile drive guard rails into the side of the road.
The truck was a “2013 Freightliner M21 equipped with a rear-mounted post drive,” according to the sheriff’s release. Kinsella, who is from New York, was manning the pile driver in the back.
The accident is still under investigation, but police believe either the ground gave way or the vehicle became unstable, tipping over into the ravine, pinning Kinsella down and killing him.
During the accident the truck struck another man, Gregory Ray, from Mount Sterling, Kentucky, who was later airlifted to UC Medical Center with “with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” according to the release.
An investigation is ongoing.
