Fort Wright residents will receive a higher waste collection bill in 2025.
The last renegotiated their waste collection contract in 2023, when the Rumpke contract raised the annual fee to $216 per household. As they did in 2023, the city reached out to several waste collection services.
Both Best Way and Republic declined the offer to bid. Only Rumpke bid on the contract.
The 2025 contract will raise the annual fee to $276 a household. Once this contract is approved by the city council, taxpayers will see the new fee on their November 2025 tax bill.
Fort Wright’s waste collection contract requires households to provide their own trash can or rent one from Rumpke. Rumpke will provide a recycling bin to each house for no cost.
“A lot of people aren’t aware that they can get a free recycling bin,” City Administrator Jill Cain Bailey said. “We want to get the word out about that.”
Residents can contact Rumpke at 859-472-7339 to ask about trash can rental and the free recycling bin.
Council will vote to approve the contract at their August 20 meeting.
