The city of Fort Mitchell is set to buy a plot of land adjacent to General Ormsby Mitchell Park, which it hopes to use to expand the city’s greenspace.
The city purchased the plot of land at 251 Grandview Drive from Richard and Marilyn Oehler, who recently approached Fort Mitchell city administration with an offer to sell the land.
“The opportunity to purchase this property just recently presented itself to the city,” City Administrator Edwin King said. “It is rare to have a parcel like this become available.”
According to King, the city plans to demolish the house on the property to provide that extra green space. Council may discuss further development of the land.
“While there are no specific plans for it currently, there has been discussion in the past about building a city community center somewhere in the city for residents to use,” King said. “It could be one of many options to discuss in the future.”
Any use of the land will include a plaque commemorating the Oehlers.
“The Oehlers are an amazing family,” Mayor Jude Hehman said. “I remember knocking on their door as a young council member and asking for their vote.”
The city will purchase the property for $330,000. This transaction has been accounted for in the amended budget.
