On Thursday, July 3, the Newport Blast fireworks and drone show will be displayed on the Ohio River.

To ensure public safety during the event, a temporary river “safety zone” river closure will be enforced from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. between the Purple People Bridge (mile marker 469.7) and the Taylor-Southgate Bridge (mile marker 469.9).

During this time, no vessel movement will be authorized within the designated zone unless approved by PATCOM via Marine Radio Channel 13. This restriction applies to all recreational and commercial vessels.

Additionally:

  • Recreational vessels will not be permitted to anchor within the “safety zone” during the closure period.
  • All anchoring must be conducted upriver of the Purple People Bridge or downriver of the Taylor-Southgate Bridge, outside of the main channel and away from commercial docking areas.

Local and federal first responder vessels will be actively patrolling the area and available for assistance as needed. Boone County Water Rescue asks boaters to exercise caution, comply with all navigation and safety directives and remain alert for official instructions.
