The City of Covington will begin trash pickup an hour earlier than usual on particularly hot summer days.

Covington has approved a request from Rumpke Waste & Recycling to start residential and commercial pickups at 6 a.m. instead of the usual 7 a.m. when temperatures and humidity are high.

The schedule change is designed to minimize the risk of heat-related illnesses for waste collection workers.

City officials recommend setting trash and recycling carts out the night before to avoid missed pickups.
