A round of renovations and improvements at Kenton County’s historic courthouse in Independence has been officially completed, the county announced this week.
The highlight of the improvements is the new 25- by 50-foot open-air farmers market pavilion, where local vendors will gather to sell their produce every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. between May and October.
The Independence Farmers Market returned to the historic courthouse this month on May 3. When not being used by the farmers market, county residents can rent the pavilion.
“Creating a permanent home for the Independence Farmers Market allows us to support our local farmers and helps bring our courthouse campus to life on the weekends,” Kenton County Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann said in a press release. “With all our projects, we aim to create community assets, like this, that will serve our residents for generations to come.”
Other improvements include renovations to the courthouse’s men’s restroom, the addition of a women’s restroom (finally), an upgraded lobby as well as improvements to the offices of the sheriff and the property valuation administrator.
Contact the county’s parks and recreation department to learn more about renting the pavilion in the off season.
