Holy Cross High School senior Jocelyn Monson has been named as a finalist for a National Merit Scholarship, a legacy program honoring academic achievement that dates back to 1955. Just over 7,000 scholarships of varying types are awarded every year.
“Being a finalist means the student is among the country’s top academic achievers and makes her eligible to compete for a scholarship based on her PSAT scores, academic record and other achievements,” according to a press release from Holy Cross. “As her certificate reads, she is destined for ‘high potential for future academic accomplishment.'”
In addition to her academic achievements, Monson is a member of several extracurricular clubs, including the school’s mock government (called the Y-Club), the Art Club, the Drama Club and the Dungeons and Dragons Club. She’s also a regional champion in composition for the Kentucky Governor’s Cup, a legacy academic competition.
