Ethan Nuckols, a firefighter and paramedic with the City of Covington, has been honored with the Gateway Community and Technical College Paramedic Education Program and St. Elizabeth Healthcare Field Preceptor of the Year award for his work in educating paramedic students.

Nuckols was honored at a ceremony at the Covington City Commission meeting Tuesday night. Mike Harris, a former Covington firefighter and program coordinator for the paramedic program at Gateway, told the commission that students select instructors every year whom they think has provided exceptional instruction. Harris read off some student comments to the commission.

“To narrow this down to one person that was extraordinary in their educational endeavor, I think is a tremendous feat for your employee,” Harris said. “A couple of the things that were said about this employee is he was an awesome medic to ride in the ambulance with. He understands what it’s like to be a student and help make ride time a painless and enjoyable experience, and compliments from students don’t really come easy. Another thing that was said about this employee is he is willing to let students actually perform skills and teach them to do it the right way. So, when it comes to actually being a good field provider and teaching the next generation of EMS providers, this employee has done an exceptional job.”

Nuckols declined to comment on his award.
