Fort Wright City Council reappointed council member Bernie Wessels to the Kenton County Planning and Development Services Council. Council member Jason C. Collins was appointed to serve as an alternate.

Wessels has served as Fort Wright’s representative to the Planning and Development Services Council for around 10 years. As a member of the council, Weber weighs in on zoning, development, and more.

LINK asked Fort Wright Mayor Dave Hatter for comment on Wessels’ reappointment.

“He has a lot of institutional knowledge in this field,” Hatter said about Wessels’ appointment. “Bernie is a natural fit in my mind. I’m thankful he’s willing to do it.”

Wessels also serves on the planning and development services management board. He said that from his position, the organization’s future is bright.

“We’ve got a great group of folks on the management board,” Wessels said. “Sharmili Reddy is doing a fantastic job. What we want to do is continue the mission KRS-100.”

Wessels referred to Kentucky Revised Statute Chapter 100. That piece of legislation provides the “legal guidelines” that the planning and development services council operates under.

Fort Wright will need to again appoint a council member for this position in 2026.
