The Erlanger Police Department is stepping up security in the city’s parks following repeated incidents of vandalism. They’re also encouraging community members to report any vandalism they witness.

“Public parks are meant to be safe, welcoming spaces for families, children and the entire community,” said Mayor Jessica Fette in a press release. “We are deeply disappointed by these acts of vandalism, but let me be clear: this is unacceptable, and we will not stand for it. We will take every necessary step to ensure that those responsible are held accountable, and we will continue working to protect our parks.”

The vandalism has been especially bad at Silverlake Park, according to the police department. The police believe the people responsible for the most recent acts of alleged vandalism at Silverlake may be the same people who’ve committed vandalism in Edgewood and Taylor Mill. As such, the police are unsure if the suspects are from Erlanger. Video footage of recent vandalism at Silverlake was captured by temporary cameras the public works department had set up.

“Vandalism doesn’t just damage property; it undermines the sense of community pride and safety,” said Erlanger Police Chief Kyle Rader. “We are committed to identifying and holding accountable those responsible for these actions. We are increasing our patrols and will continue to use all available resources to protect these vital public spaces.”

The police have stepped up security in the following ways:

  • Installing Wi-Fi in the parks, which will eventually allow for the installation of cameras throughout
  • Installation of cameras at Cahill Commons
  • Installation of cameras at the Railroad Depot Park
  • Installation of cameras at Silverlake Park, which are slated for completion later this week
  • Generally stepping up targeted patrols in the parks

Erlanger residents who have any knowledge of the incidents or who witness a new incident can make a report to the police department using the city’s online contact form. You can also leave a report with the police by calling (859)356-3191.
