The Northern Kentucky Branch of the NAACP is holding its annual Freedom Fund Gala this weekend.

Christopher Johnson, vice president, Health Equity, Culture and Community at St. Elizabeth Health Care, will be the keynote speaker. The co-chairs for the gala are Covington Mayor-Elect Ron Washington and Superintendent of Covington Independent Schools Alvin Garrison.

The Freedom Fund Gala will be held at the Radisson Riverview Hotel, located at 668 West Fifth St., on Saturday, Nov. 9. It will be held from  7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The doors open at 6 p.m.

The organization will present scholarships to students graduating from Holmes High School, Newport High School, Scott High School, Lloyd Memorial High School and Boone County High School. In addition, several awards will be presented to outstanding individuals who have been active in creating impactful and positive change in Northern Kentucky communities.

Community Empowerment Award:

  • Lindsey Honaker, Manager, One Stop Help Center Growth and Community Engagement Passport by Molina Healthcare.
  • Farduwsa Hassan, LEILA Urgent Care.

President’s award:

Dashai Thompson, Director of Inclusive Business Strategies Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

Outstanding Service award:

  • Amanda Jones, Daughters of the King.
  • Maurice Brown, Covington.

NAACP Historical Legacy award:

Etta Cowan.

Military Salute:

Andre James.
