Northern Kentucky education nonprofit EducateNKY received a $500,000 donation to support its mission of building an education ecosystem that ignites every eager, vibrant mind in Northern Kentucky.
The donation was given by United Way of Greater Cincinnati. United Way Investments President/CEO Moira Weir emphasized their commitment to partnerships aimed at improving youth success and workforce readiness. EducateNKY was one of six organizations selected for the $2.3 million total investment to support positive youth and educational outcomes and address critical challenges outside the classroom that hinder student and family stability and success.
“We are extremely grateful to United Way for its award and are committed to partnering with them and the community-at-large to boldly ‘move the needle’ in Northern Kentucky”, said EducateNKY President and CEO Cheye Calvo. “This award will have a transformational impact at this pivotal time and help to propel our region forward.”
EducateNKY was launched in August 2023 and completed a comprehensive assessment of the Northern Kentucky education landscape. The report focused on the river city communities of Covington, Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, Southgate and Ludlow where socioeconomic disparities result in academic outcomes below state and regional averages.
After engaging key stakeholders in work groups to gather input, EducateNKY has created a 5-year strategic plan focused in five priority areas: Early Learning, Family Partnership, Out of School Time/Exposure, Mastery Learning and Secondary Options. EducateNKY sees its role as an incubator, activator and accelerator working with other partners collaboratively to implement systemic change that improves education outcomes across the continuum.
