Volunteers from Amazon’s Air Hub came out to GO Pantry, a food bank in Florence, on Monday to help the organization restock its warehouse and prepare food packages for local students. The event also saw Amazon donate $50,000 to the organization.

“Every school in our community has kids that are hungry,” said Laura Dumancic, co-founder of GO Pantry, in a press release. “These needs are often overlooked because the kids live in economically stable communities. People are continually surprised that hunger is a real challenge in our local area.”

GO Pantry helps about 1,200 students who are food insecure in NKY and southeast Indiana get meals when they’re out of school and don’t have easy access to food. Students identified as at risk by their schools receive GO Pantry’s weekend “GO Bags” and school break “GO Boxes” full of food from the organization. GO Pantry serves about 80 schools in their service area.

“Students are our future innovators and their success depends on their ability to learn and be curious. They can’t do that on an empty stomach,” said Bagavathi Pandian. “We are excited to support the Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana communities by partnering with GO Pantry that provides a critical service to meet the needs for children and their families to access nutritious food.”
