Kayak rentals and year-round seasonal personal kayak storage are now available in Newport.
Schack’s Yaks rentals and storage units are in General James Taylor Park at 100 Riverboat Row in Newport. It opens every day at 7 a.m. and closes for the last rental to be scanned out no later than two and a half hours before sunset.
Kayak renters can download the Koloni app on Android or Apple to sign the waiver, place payment, and scan the QR code to open the locker and start their rental. Rental rates are $15 for the first hour and $10 for every hour after that.
All kayaks include a universal life jacket and paddle. There are also two fishing rod holders, cup holders and a cargo area. The weight limit is 250 pounds.
All kayaks must be returned to the kiosk locker to avoid additional fees. Kayaks are requested to travel on the Licking River.
Customers can email Schack’s Yaks for personal kayak storage to be added to the locker list. They offer both seasonal and year-round storage. Rates will be prorated depending on the time of the month when a locker becomes available. Locker dimensions are 12 feet long, 40 inches wide and 21 inches tall.
Personal storage users must provide their own locker lock after receiving the rental agreement and payment.
Additional kayak pod buildings will be added throughout the remainder of the season.
