Amazon continues to expand its presence in Boone County by opening its first ‘last-mile’ delivery station in Northern Kentucky.

The station, located at 7435 Industrial Road in Florence, is the last leg of an Amazon package’s journey to a customer in Northern Kentucky. The facility is a transportation hub for packages that arrive, are processed, picked up by a delivery driver, and then transported to their final destination.

The facility is approximately five miles from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Hebron – home of Amazon Air’s North American Superhub.

On Wednesday, Amazon hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to christen the facility’s opening while touting the ongoing collaboration between the company, Boone County, and Northern Kentucky.

“Amazon’s presence in the region underscores the importance of Florence as a strategic appointment hub in the heart of Northern Kentucky,” Florence City Manager Josh Hunt said during the ceremony. “It highlights our commitment to fostering an environment that attracts world-class businesses and urges economic development.”

Florence Site Lead Bryan Dzialo told media at the ceremony that the facility houses the latest shipping and processing technology, dozens of Rivian delivery trucks, and the capability to process tens of thousands of customer orders daily.

On the operations side, Dzalio said the facility has a coordinated dispatch sequence in which up to 50 Amazon delivery trucks depart every 25 minutes. This way, Amazon can maximize the amount of packages they are able to deliver in a day. The facility only services deliveries to Northern Kentucky customers.

“Every 25 minutes, we bring in a new set of vans and load them up in dispatch sequence,” Dzalio said.

To service Amazon’s fleet of Rivian vans, the facility is equipped with over 300 electric vehicle charging stations.

Looking ahead, Dzalio said Amazon’s goal was to hire up to 150 full-time employees to staff the facility. It will take around eight to ten weeks for the facility to become fully operational.

Before the construction of the Amazon facility, the site was home to an outdated industrial building which had housed Lit-Ning Products and, more recently, A-1 Pallet.

“It was clear that the building had outlived its useful life expectancy and posed significant challenges,” Hunt said. “Four years ago, we embarked on a journey with the development team to transform this property into a beacon of opportunity and growth.”

Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore recounted the late ’90s expansion of Florence’s Industrial Road, allowing for more commercial and industrial expansion in the area.

“We made this a five-lane section with multi-use paths, and it’s helped invigorate this industrial park,” Moore said.
