Ricky Raider, 37, of Cincinnati, was indicted on June 4 by a Boone County Grand Jury in connection to the traffic death of an 18-year-old Independence woman.

This incident, which took place on July 16, 2023, near the 176.5 mile marker on southbound I-75, involved a tire flying over a concrete barrier and striking the windshield of the victim, Lauren Collins and killing her.

On July 22, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Raider admitted he “lost a tire on the interstate over the past weekend but didn’t believe his tire had hit anyone.”

However, investigators later obtained a recorded call between Raider and a female inmate at the Bullitt County Detention Center that occurred on July 16, where he admitted to witnessing the tire collide with Collins’ vehicle and he “knew that the collision likely resulted in someone being hurt or killed,” per the department.

After the collision, investigators said the tire “rested near the concrete barrier that divides northbound and southbound I-75, and Raider fled the scene after mounting the tire back onto his truck.”

Raider is currently housed at the Boone County Detention Center and is held on a $40,000 cash bond. He is charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid with death of serious injury and one count of persistent felony offender.
