Dayton city council passed the city’s 2024-2025 fiscal year budget quickly at its June 5 meeting. Much of the discussion over the budget had taken place at the May meeting. Council members thanked Assistant City Administrator Jerrod Barks for the detailed presentation he gave at that meeting and for providing a proposed budget document.
Council also passed an ordinance changing the schedule for city council meetings starting next month.
City officials introduced the ordinance for a first reading at the May council meeting. At that time, they said having a meeting in the first week of each month led to problems when holidays interfered with scheduling. They also noted it was difficult for city staff to prepare detailed reports at such a busy time of the month.
Council members added they would like more time at the beginning of the month to prepare for their first monthly meeting.
“After some discussion with council at previous meetings, we determined that the first Tuesday of the month was a bad day for meetings because of holidays, election days and things that nature so we decided to change it to the second and the fourth Tuesday of the month,” said Mayor Ben Baker.
The new meeting dates will begin in July. The first meeting under the new schedule will be Tuesday, July 9. If needed, a second monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 23. Regular council meetings will continue on the second and fourth Tuesdays hereafter.
Council also passed an ordinance to amend and clarify language in the interlocal agreement between the cities of Dayton and Bellevue that established the Bellevue-Dayton Fire Department in 2001. The new language better reflects the terms and conditions set for the company and its joint operation.
