The Judge/Executives of Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties voted to reduce Sanitation District 1’s stormwater management fees and pause its capacity connection fees, usually charged when newly constructed sewer systems get connected to public infrastructure, at their recent budget approval meeting, according to a recent announcement from the agency.
All stormwater customers will see a 5 % reduction in the stormwater management fee, per the announcement. Monthly stormwater bills will drop from $4.31 to $4.10 per equivalent residential unit, while quarterly nonresidential bills will drop from $12.93 to $12.30 per equivalent residential unit.
“SD1 continues to balance environmental leadership with fiscal responsibility,” said SD1 Executive Director Adam Chaney in the same announcement. “Our storm water management program addresses critical storm water infrastructure needs across our region to combat flooding and erosion and improve water quality. At the same time, we continue to enhance efficiencies and improve technologies that enable us to provide these services while reducing our storm water fee again this year.”
The announcement also states that the typical connection fee, usually charged once upon connection to the public sewer system, will freeze. Sanitary sewer fees, on the other hand, will remain in effect.
The base sanitary sewer rate will increase from $30 to $34 per month in fiscal year 2025, and the variable rate will decrease from $4.18 per hundred cubic feet to $3.63 per hundred cubic feet, per the announcement. The environmental surcharge, which helps fund SD1’s Clean H2O40 sewer overflow mitigation program, will remain $8 per month.
As a result, customers’ bills may increase or decrease depending on location and water usage. The changes will take effect July 1.
