The Purple People Bridge, which has been closed since Sunday for reports of falling rocks, partially reopened Friday morning.
The City of Newport announced in a Facebook post Thursday that an engineering firm has completed a safety inspection and determined it was safe to reopen – partially.
Restrictions will be in place while repairs are made – Barriers will be installed on the bridge deck of the Cincinnati approach, the post said, to prevent pedestrians from fully crossing the bridge from the City of Newport into the City of Cincinnati.
“Therefore, the bridge will remain closed to through traffic between Kentucky and Ohio until further notice,” the post reads. “Access to the bridge will be limited only to the Kentucky side of the river.”
