The Covington City Commission chose to table multiple municipal actions in the face of budgetary challenges at their caucus meeting Tuesday night. Specifically, they passed over a proposed increase in the city trash fee, the buying of several pieces of heavy machinery for the Public Works Department and the hiring of an administrative assistant for the Neighborhood Services Department.
“I’m uncomfortable with hiring new people under our current budget situation,” said City Commissioner and mayoral candidate Ron Washington, specifically referencing the proposed administrative assistant position.
The commission will take up these issues again during their annual budgeting process in June.
