Two Newport Fire/EMS Department members were promoted Monday at the city commission meeting.
Firefighter/medic Peter Westhoff was promoted to engineer/medic. The department hired Westhoff in November 2021.
“He is an integral part of the department,” Newport Fire Chief Frank Peluso Jr. said. “He’s done very well in his time here. He did very well on his engineers exam. I have no doubt he will do well as an engineer with the fire department.”
Lieutenant Ryan Whaley was promoted to the rank of Captain. Whaley joined the Newport Fire Department in April 2014. He was promoted to engineer in September 2018 and then to Lieutenant in 2021.
“He has done extremely well in his many roles here in the department, and I have no doubt that he will continue to do so,” Peluso said.
