Newport Police Lieutenant Daniel Delaney received the Years of Service award Monday evening for his tenure as a police officer.

The department gave Delaney a shadowbox for his retirement with things he has accomplished in his career, from being a field training officer to his work as a traffic officer.

“He was the hardest-working police officer for the longest amount of time I had ever seen,” Newport Police Chief Chris Fangman said. “There was no stopping him, and usually, when people get into the ranks of sergeant or lieutenant, they slow down. It’s at the end of their career. They’re just not as busy. That never happened with Lieutenant Delaney. He led by example to the very last day of his career.”
