A national clothing retailer has reopened in Northern Kentucky nearly a year after shutting down its Latonia storefront.

Citi Trends, a value-priced retailer of urban fashion apparel, shoes, accessories and home décor, opened inside the Newport Shopping Center at 1741 Monmouth St. between Newport Racing & Gaming and Crunch Fitness. Before Citi Trends, the location was home to lease-to-own retailer Aaron’s.

Citi Trends had a prior location in the Latonia Plaza which closed in 2022. The store announced they would relocate to the Newport Shopping Center in June last year but didn’t open until this July.

Headquartered in Savannah, Georgia, Citi Trends has over 600 stores in 33 states. Within the Greater Cincinnati region, Citi Trends has storefronts in Mount Healthy, West Hills, Avondale and Hillcrest. In total, they have seven locations in the state of Kentucky.

Citi Trends’ former home, Latonia Plaza, is in the midst of a transformation. Opened in 1964, the Plaza was originally envisioned as a retail outlet, the property eventually stagnated with stores like Citi Trends, Meijer and Arden’s closing throughout the years.

Since an investment group led by Covington developer Josh Niederhelman purchased the development in 2021, the property was repurposed into a center for logistics and trade education.
