The Newport Education Foundation is accepting financial donations to help pay for the renovations costs of Newport High School’s football stadium.
The foundation is looking to raise $1 million or more for the project’s $5 million second phase, which includes construction of new locker rooms, restrooms and a concession stand.
“We have had a lot of people reach out and ask how they can help with the renovation,” Newport Independent Schools Superintendent Tony Watts said in a press release. “We certainly appreciate anyone who wants to continue the district’s rich tradition of athletics.”
Phase one of the stadium renovation has already been launched which includes the demolition of the stadium, site preparation and the installation of new bleachers.
According to school officials, the Wildcats football team hopes to play in the renovated stadium this fall.
